This video was posted on my Facebook feed from
someone else’s blog just before I started my media deconstruction. I traced the video back to YouTube as was able
to post it. It was too funny not to share.
Deconstruction
#1)
Who Paid for the Ad?
This was a fun YouTube video not done for profit.
#3)
What group is targeted by this ad?
The
video targets people who like babies.
#6)
What kind of culture does the example create?
The video promotes a
middle class white nuclear family household, with one mom, and one dad.
#13)
How does the example try to move emotions? Is it simple/complex? Is it logical?
It features a very
cute baby, which pulls at our connection to babies and cuteness. It’s not logical
but it is a basic human instinct to love cute babies.
#14)
Is it closer to fantasy or reality?
The video is very realistic
the baby may not be as smart as the video gives it credit, but the storyline is
very realistic.
#15)
Does it use stereotypes?
The video reinforces
the stereotype of the female as the main caretaker while father occasionally
plays with the kid.
#8)
What tools of persuasions are used?
Plain
Folk, because almost everyone could have a baby.
Humor, because a smart baby is funny.
Warm and Fuzzy, because the baby is
just so cute.
Definitely a a sunny perspective on a bleak economy, with social order going down in lieu of the recession. Nice to have idealizations.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Megan. A nice, light, entertaining clip.
ReplyDeleteI definitely found this video to be quite humorous and that is what made me really enjoy it. It was really getting quite sad once I was seeing the male figure (the father, I assume) trying to get the baby to like him through bribing her with things like a pony and continually trying to change her response. I would completely agree that the child knows and loves her mom the most with her being around the child the most.
ReplyDeleteThis is was a super cute video. It had me laughing hard. It reminds me of when our daughter decided she would only say dada when my husband wasn't around for the first like 2 months. He was getting so frustrated because all she would say was mama, even if he picked her up. Even now that she says dada, he will occasionally pick her up and she will throw herself at me and say "mama". Overall this was a great video and I think you nailed the questions.
ReplyDeleteThat was AWESOME! You did a really nice job with the questions--At first I tried to do a television show but was having difficulty with the questions. You did a really nice job connecting the meaning of the questions to the clip.
ReplyDeleteThis was a cute, fun to watch video. Even though they aren't selling something, and the video is meant to be humerous, I think that this shows why the use of cute kids are such an effective advertising tool!
